The Sheriff’s Office in Allegany County patrols an area of 1,304 square miles of which 5.1 square miles is water. The Office protects, as of the 2017 estimate, 46,894 residents. The mission of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office is to partner with the citizens and other stakeholders in Allegany County to provide a safe and stable environment to protect families and businesses.

Visitation, Money, Mail and Calls

Allegany County Jail Visitation is:
Saturday and Sunday Only:
9:30 am – 10:30 am (males)
1:00 pm to 2:00 pm (males
2:30 pm to 3:30 pm (females)
5:30 to 6:30 pm (males)
7:00 pm to 800 pm (males)

To schedules a visit, call 5850-268-9428 at least 24 hours in advance. Visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes early. If visitors are late, the visit will be denied.
Valid photo ID must be presented, and you must dress appropriately. Visitors must remain seated in the visitation room at all times. There is a barrier, but you may hold hands over the barrier. A brief hug and kiss are permitted at the beginning and end of every visit. Once inmates are processed and classified, they have regular weekly visits that last one hour each week.

No money can be dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office for an inmate. You must either use the kiosk in the lobby or mail the money to the inmate. Money orders are made out to the Allegany county sheriff’s office commissary in care of the inmate’s name. Personal checks are not accepted.

Allegany County, New York Information

Allegany County is located along the southern tier in New York. At the 2010 census the population was 48,946. The county seat is Belmont and the name Allegany comes from a Lenape Indian word. The county is bisected by the Genesee River flowing to Lake Ontario. The county was founded in 1806.
