Chautauqua County, New York Jail Information

The jail is a division of the Sheriff’s Office and under the direct responsibility of the sheriff. There is a warden assigned to the jail and oversees the daily operation of the facility. There is a management staff of three and six shift supervisors plus correctional officers.

If you want to visit with an inmate either in person or video must make an appointment online. You are also able to visit an inmate from home. The cost for online visitation is 10 minutes $4.00, 25 minutes $10.00. To visit an innate face to face is no cost.

Chautauqua County, New York Information

Chautauqua County is the westernmost county in New York state. At the 2010 census the population was 134,905 and the county seat is Mayville. The largest city, however, is Jamestown. Chautauqua’s name is believed to be from the Erie language. This language was lost in the Beaver Wars and its meaning is unknown. The county was created in 1808 and organized in 1811. The county includes a small portion of the Cattaraugus Reservation of the Seneca and is just south of Lake Erie.
