Essex County New York Jail Information

The Essex County Sheriff’s office maintains the county jail. Inmates who are incarcerated in the Essex County jail are sentenced and waiting of sentencing. The jail holds male, female and those who are 17 years old and older. There are high school education programs, substance abuse counseling and mental health services.

Register at least 15 minutes prior to your visit. Register in the Jail Lobby.
Government issued photo ID required.
Visits are on a first come, first served and inmates are allowed two one hour visits per week. Wear appropriate attire and be respectful.

Essex County, New York Information

Essex County, NY is on the northeastern border of New York State. As of the 2010 census the population was 39,370 and the county seat is the hamlet of Elizabethtown. The name comes from the English county of Essex. Essex County is entirely within the Adirondack Park. The county was founded in 1799. The picturesque mountain village of Lake Placid is in Essex County.
