The Sheriff’s Office patrols a total area of 1,367 square miles of which 710 square miles is water. The Office protects 742,474 (2081 est) citizens. The Jail consists of an administrative division and four bureaus, civil, police, jail and court security. The Sheriff’s Office consists of a parks patrol, marine unit, horse mounted patrol, SWAT, K-9, Bomb Squad, Patrol and Investigations.

Monroe County is in the western portion of the state of New York. The county is along Lake Ontario’s southern shore. The population at the 2010 census was 742,474 and the county seat is Rochester. The county is named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States. The county was founded on February 23, 1821.
