The sheriff’s office patrols a total area of 817 square miles, of which 426 square mile is water. The office protects a population, as of 2017, of 40,983 citizens. The county sheriff’s office represents the higher order of law enforcement in Orleans County. The office answers directly to the people. Department in the Sheriff’s office includes animal control, jail, communications, marine, road patrol, and civil. There are 20 deputies in the patrol department, 32 criminal investigators and one juvenile aid officer.

Orleans County New York Jail Information

The Orleans County Jail is authorized to house 82 inmates, but quite often exceeds that number. The jail is a detention center for a pre-trial felony or misdemeanor defendants. There is a command staff of 3 lieutenants and three sergeants who supervise 26 full time and ten part-time corrections officers. There are also seven civilian employees.

Visitation, Money, Mail, and Calls

You can send money to an inmate by using the mobile friendly website or using your debit or credit card and posting to an inmate’s account. Call the jail and be sure to give the inmate’s full name.
Visitation must register with the Jail Control Room before the start of the visitation period. Inmates are allowed one visit two times per week. Visitors must sign in 30 minutes before visitation — visitors are required to sign the visitor log. Visitors are required to submit a Photo ID, and all personal property must be left outside the jail or in the lockers in the front lobby. Visitors must pass through the lobby metal detector.

K-Z Thursday and Sunday
First Group 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Second group 2:00 pm – 3:00
Visits are split into two groups that are one hour in length.
You can mail basic necessities and letters to an inmate. All incoming mail and packages are subject to search and seizure by the correctional staff.

Orleans County, New York Information

Orleans County is in the western part of New York. At the 2010 census, the population was 42,883. The county seat is Albion. The county received its name at the instance of Nehemiah Ingersoil., but historians are not sure how the name as selected. The county is located on the south shore of Lake Ontario. The county was founded in 1824.
