The sheriff’s office patrols a total area of 188 square miles, of which 25 square miles is water. The office protects a population of 328,868 citizens. There are four divisions in the Rockland County sheriff’s office. These divisions include police, civil, corrections, and communications. The Office also has special units that include crime scene, bomb/fire investigation, K9, tactical, marine, mounted, and computer crimes. There are 66 officers in the Police department of the sheriff’s office.

The Rockland County Correctional Center accepts all individuals legally remanded to the custody of the Sheriff from all State and Federal courts and law enforcement agencies. The Center provides the facility for males and females over the age of 16. The facility has a capacity of 278 inmates. The average number of prisoners in the facility is 260, and it is a medium security-level facility.

Rockland County is the southernmost county on the west side of the Hudson River in New York State. As of 2010, the population of Rockland County was 311,687. Rockland County is the third most densely populated county outside New York City. The County seat is New City, and the county comprises five towns, nineteen incorporated villages, and numerous unincorporated villages and hamlets. About one-third of the county is parkland, and the county ranks 9th on the list of highest-income counties. The county was founded in 1798.
