Westchester County New York Sheriff Information
The Westchester County Sheriff’s Office patrols an area of 500 square miles of which 69 square miles is water. The Office protects approximately 980,244 citizens, and that number is rising. The Sheriff’s Office was merged with the Westchester County Parkway Police in 1979 and covers county parks, parkway, and facilities. The Patrol division assists Westchester county’s municipal police agencies including motor vehicle stop and searches, emergency crowd control and DWI checkpoints. The PSD also includes security for the main campus of Westchester Community College, the county jail and the New York Medical College. There is also a communications unit, crash reduction unit, and park rangers. Investigative services and crime analysis unit assist the county in a variety of units. Two hundred forty-seven officers are considered sheriff’s deputies who work with other agencies.
