The Yates County Sheriff’s Office patrols an area of 376 square miles of which 38 square miles is water. The Office protects a population, 2010, of 25,348. The divisions in the Sheriff’s Office include a civil division, communications, corrections, court security, records division, and patrol division.

Yates County New York Jail Information

When the jail first opened in 1977, the maximum capacity was forty inmates. Renovations and expansion have raised the present capacity to 65 inmates. The jail facility is a medium security jail and houses adult offenders. The jail is known as a Linear Design, and inmates are placed in individual cells with an open Bull Pen Area.

The facility has thirty-eight full-time Correction office and eleven part-time officers: three full-time civilian employees and four part-time civilian employees.

Visitation, Money, Mail, and Calls

Visiting days are on Tuesday and Saturday. All visits are on an appointment basis. Visitors need to call the Jail at 315-536-5175 or come to the Jail the day before to make an appointment. Inmates can have up to two one-hour visits per week. Visiting hours are from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Visitors must have a valid photo ID. All visits start on the hour and run for one hour. If you arrive thirty minutes late for your visit, that visit will be denied.

The phone system is operated by AT&T. The system is a collect call operation. Inmates cannot receive phone calls. Each cell block has a phone for inmate use.

Funds will be accepted through the email in the form of money or certified bank check. You can also deposit money for an inmate using the kiosk in the lobby or online at www.mycaepack.com and selecting smart deposits. There is a fee charged by the kiosk and also online.

Yates County, New York Information

Yates County is located in the west-central part of the state of New York. The population as of the 2010 census was 25,348 which makes Yates County the third least populated county in the state. The county seat is Penn Yan. The name of the county is in honor of Joseph C. Yates who was a governor of New York. The county was founded on February 5, 1823.
