There were 26 Deputy Sheriffs and five (5) sergeants assigned to law enforcement duties, seven (7) detectives assigned to the serious crimes unit, and two (2) detectives assigned to the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force. Finerson who was killed on duty in 1970, which patrols the waters of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, four (4) snowmobiles, and four (4) all-terrain vehicles. The K9 Unit was reinstated in 2004 and now has three (3) dogs on the force.

Built in 1992, the 162-bed Jefferson County Correctional Facility is a direct supervision facility which detains and houses inmates. The facility is also in charge of transporting inmates to courts, prisons, and other sites as designated by the courts or laws.
