Fulton County is located in the center of New York state and more than half of the county lies within the Adirondack Park. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,531 and the county seat is Johnstown, but the largest city is Gloversville. The county is named in honor of Robert Fulton who developed the first commercially successful steamboat. The county was founded in 1838.
